The Leafy Greens Safety Coalition member companies believe that food safety is not competitive.

In that spirit, they work together to identify priorities and advance leafy greens safety for consumers.

Stop Foodborne Illness, the consumer advocacy group for families impacted by serious foodborne illness, is also a member of the LGSC

Leafy Greens Safety Coalition History‍

  • Founded in January 2019 after the FDA announced another romaine lettuce advisory just before Thanksgiving

  • Wegmans wanted to understand how best to address the advisories and eliminate foodborne illness associated with romaine

  • Reached out to other progressive food safety leader companies to form a coalition to work on this together

  • The original members were; Walmart, Kroger, Yum, Costco, Wegmans and Stop Foodborne Illness (Mike Taylor)

  • In 2021, HEB and McDonalds were invited to join the LGSC

  • Subway and Sysco joined in 2024.  ‍‍
