LGSC serves as a vital platform for collaboration among suppliers, retailers, foodservice, regulatory agencies, and other key stakeholders in the agriculture space, fostering industry alignment and the exchange of best practices, all with the goal of safeguarding consumers and ensuring the supply of safe and wholesome leafy greens. The LGSC currently has three work groups focused on the following priorities: Ag. water quality, Modernizing Traceability and Harmonization of Best Practices. 

Driving Change

The LGSC works to drive change in the leafy greens industry across all segments of the supply chain by facilitating communication among key stakeholders. This approach is designed to promote the sharing and implementation of best practices throughout the industry.

Forum for Collaboration

The LGSC provides a unique forum where member organizations can collaborate, drawing upon their collective technical expertise and industry experience to advance the safety of leafy greens for consumers.

Engage With Regulators

The LGSC regularly meets with federal regulatory agencies and state-level organizations that are dedicated to advancing improvements in leafy greens safety protocols. Through this engagement, the LGSC works to foster a collaborative environment focused on identifying emerging risks, sharing scientific insights, and aligning on comprehensive strategies that further enhance the safety and quality of leafy greens for consumers.

Accomplishments

  • Provided input on the Produce Safety Rule to the FDA

  • Helped consumer groups draft legislation for the traceability compliance section of FSMA

  • Supported the LGMA Metrics and shared best practice recommendations

  • Supported the Romaine Lettuce Task Force recommendations

  • Supported the Harvest Forward initiative on harvest equipment sanitation

  • Participated in the California Good Ag. Neighbor initiative

  • Met with the winners of the FDA Food Traceability Challenge for traceability in the produce space.
